Global fintech investment doubles to €43 billion in 2018

Globally, €43 billion was invested in FinTech in 2018, twice the 2017 amount of €21 billion. More than half of 2018 investment took place in Asia, including the $14 billion series C raised by Ant Financial.

We’ve tracked 127 mega-rounds over €50 million in 2018, accounting for €33.4 billion, or 78% of total investment. By comparison, 2013 had only 11 mega-rounds that accounted for €1.7 billion, or 27% of total investment.

2019 seems set to be another highly active year for FinTech; especially for Europe where investments are surging and the number of mega-rounds is five times more than 2018 during the same period.
