Tsinghua-backed Tairex raises ~$15M angel round for AI hospital system

What's the deal? Tairex, a Chinese medical AI startup spun out of Tsinghua University's Institute for AI Industry Research, has raised nearly US$13.8M in an angel round. Backers include Ren'ai Capital, Shangshi Capital, and InnoAngel Fund, the latter two returning investors.

What's the endgame? Founded in September 2024, Tairex is building "Agent Hospital" — not a single AI doctor, but an AI-native system connecting patients, physicians, and hospitals. Its technology comes from a team led by Tsinghua professor Liu Yang.

How it works: AI doctors first train against millions of synthetic "AI patients" in a virtual world, then deploy into real hospitals, where they learn from human physicians' corrections. The company says it has built 54 AI doctors covering more than 20 clinical departments, scoring above 96% accuracy on the MedQA dataset. Final diagnoses stay with human doctors.

Why now? This is Tairex's second nearly-100-million-CNY angel round, following its first in 2025. The repeat funding signals investors are backing a shift from virtual-hospital research toward real-world hospital deployment.

By the numbers: Tairex says its system was in pilot testing across nine hospitals by July 2026. At Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, 18 clinical departments and more than 40 doctors use it routinely, with reported efficiency gains of about 30% and a 90%-plus acceptance rate for AI suggestions after 200 cases.

What could go wrong? The figures are company-reported, and there is limited evidence of recurring revenue or proven scale. Clinical decisions remain under tight human oversight and regulatory constraints, and Tairex's plan to push into grassroots clinics faces harder standardisation, payment, and liability questions.

The signal: This round ranks among the largest angel deals in Chinese health startups on record. The broader sector is drawing bigger bets too — SenseTime Medical reportedly raised more than $100 million in a 2026 Series B — as China's "AI plus healthcare" policy push gathers pace. The real test for Tairex is less the round's size than whether it can turn hospital pilots into repeatable, paid deployments.
