About Little Birdie
Little Birdie, a Melbourne-based e-commerce entity, was established in 2020 with the ambition to serve as the primary destination for online shoppers in Australia. The founding team includes seasoned executives from the Australian e-commerce sector, notably Jon Beros, who serves as CEO, alongside Catch founders Gabby and Hezi Leibovich. Beros and his co-founders, including Russell Proud and Kalman Polak, brought extensive experience from their previous roles at companies like Catch Group and Scoopon.

The company launched with significant financial momentum, securing $30 million in pre-launch funding from the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) in May 2021, which valued the pre-product startup at $130 million. This investment gave CBA a 23% stake and was intended to integrate Little Birdie's shopping content into the bank's app, providing access to its 11 million retail customers. Little Birdie operated as a retail discovery platform, not a direct seller. Its core business was aggregating over 70 million products from more than 1,000 retailers, allowing consumers to search, compare, and track items in one place. The platform utilized AI and machine learning to personalize shopping content, notify users of price drops, and highlight deals, aiming to simplify the online shopping experience for consumers overwhelmed by numerous options.
The service was delivered through a website, a mobile app, and a browser extension launched in mid-2023 that would alert users to better prices while they browsed other retail sites. In May 2024, Little Birdie unexpectedly paused all operations, shutting down its website, app, and browser extension. The company announced it would focus on developing an AI shopping tool. Subsequently, in August 2024, the Australian cashback platform Cashrewards announced its acquisition of Little Birdie for an undisclosed amount. Cashrewards, owned by ANZ-affiliated investor 1835i, plans to relaunch the Little Birdie website and app, integrating its product search and price-tracking technology with its existing cashback services.
