Why now? ORES is scaling up capital spending as electrification and renewable connections drive demand on its network. In October 2026, Walloon regulator CWaPE approved higher allowed revenues for 2026–29 to support that investment, with changes expected to raise distribution charges from 2027.

What's the endgame? The facility adds liquidity and financing flexibility rather than functioning as a conventional growth round. It sits alongside a much larger grid-investment programme, including €450 million of long-term financing the European Investment Bank agreed for ORES in 2025.

The signal: At €300 million, the facility ranks in the 90th percentile among debt deals in Belgium by amount, across a sample of 98 all-time rounds. Its significance lies in utility infrastructure financing — a steady backdrop to the capital Europe's grids need to absorb rising electrification demand.
