CorePlus–Scient merger completes as Waypoint, a $673.5M Connecticut credit union

What's the deal? CorePlus Federal Credit Union and Scient Federal Credit Union have completed their merger, now operating as Waypoint Federal Credit Union across eastern Connecticut and the greater New Haven area. The combined member-owned cooperative serves more than 50,000 members and holds about $673.5 million in assets. Terms were not disclosed.

Why now? The merger became legally effective in October 2025, but the November 3 announcement marks the completion of the account and asset combination and the operational switch to the Waypoint brand.

What's the endgame? Waypoint says the combination gives it a stronger foundation to invest in technology, services, and member experience while keeping the local relationships both credit unions were known for. It has rolled out a new online banking platform and offers products from rewards checking to Connecticut Green BankDealroom has a profile for this one. Expanding the footprint: Waypoint plans to grow its physical presence alongside the merger. In Plainfield, it will relocate from 67 Lathrop Road to 750 Norwich Road by mid-December 2026, and it intends to buy property at 350 Groton Hill Road for a new branch expected to open in 2028.

What they're saying: "Completing this merger is an important milestone, but it's also the starting point for what we can accomplish together," said chief executive officer Ray Currier.

The signal: The deal fits a broader consolidation trend, with US credit unions recording 157 mergers in 2025 as institutions seek scale to fund technology and compliance. The significance here is regional rather than industry-shaking: a merger of equals aimed at broadening services while keeping a local presence.
