The startup builds AI software that automates financial processes in European road freight, from checking delivery notes to reconciling invoices.

What's the endgame? Conlio says its platform reads and interprets transport documents, automating more than 90% of document checks. Founder and CEO Claudio Consul wants to go further: "Long-term, we want to fundamentally change how payments are settled in logistics" (translated from German).

Why now? Much of road freight is digitised, but document handling often stays manual amid varied formats, languages, and client-specific rules. Conlio pegs the European road freight market at roughly €430 billion, where thin margins make efficiency gains valuable — the company claims it can lift forwarders' operating profit by up to 30%.

The capital will fund platform development, more hires, and European expansion. Conlio already works with forwarders in Germany, the UK, Spain, and Denmark, and says it will stay independent after the round.

Who's backing it? WaVe-X is the venture arm of the WALTER GROUPDealroom has a profile for this one. The signal: The round sits in the 33rd percentile by size — modest, but it reflects a wider shift. "AI is moving out of pilot projects and into the core processes of freight forwarding," said Thomas Muscher, managing director of WaVe-X (translated from German). Larger bets like HappyRobot's $150 million Series C underline investor appetite for operational logistics AI, even if Conlio's specialised round is a different scale.
