What's the deal? ORIX AviationDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has completed its acquisition of AerFinDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Welsh aviation aftermarket specialist, in a deal worth $640 million. The transaction, cleared after regulatory approvals, makes AerFin a wholly owned subsidiary of ORIX Aviation.

Who's who? AerFin buys, sells, leases and repairs aircraft, engines and parts, employing more than 230 people across its Newport headquarters, London Gatwick, Miami, Singapore and Dublin. ORIX Aviation, a Dublin-based subsidiary of Japan's ORIX Corporation, owns and manages more than 230 aircraft leased to over 60 airlines in more than 40 countries.

What's the endgame? The deal pairs ORIX's leasing, asset management and investment platform with AerFin's repair, parts and teardown capabilities. It gives ORIX a presence across the full aircraft lifecycle rather than simply adding another fleet.

Why now? Demand for aftermarket capacity is rising as aircraft stay in service longer and engine-maintenance work holds strong. Industry reporting cites high fleet utilization, low retirement rates and persistent parts shortages.

"Today marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for AerFin," said chief executive Simon Goodson, adding that joining ORIX gives the firm "the long-term backing, global reach and shared ambition to accelerate our growth."

James Meyler, chief executive of ORIX Aviation, called the deal "an important milestone," citing "complementary capabilities across the aircraft lifecycle."

The signal: The acquisition reflects a wider Japanese-led push into aviation assets, following the roughly $7.4 billion Air Lease acquisition by Sumitomo and partners, completed in 2026. It also mirrors a scramble for aftermarket capacity seen in moves like Barnes AerospaceDealroom has a profile for this one.
