Finland's MB Funds closes seventh buyout fund at €222M
What's the deal? MB FundsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Helsinki-based private equity firm founded in 1988, has closed its seventh fund, MB Equity Fund VII, at €222 million. The buyout fund drew commitments from investors in its previous funds plus new institutional backers.
What's the endgame? The fund continues MB Funds' strategy of taking majority stakes in profitable mid-sized Finnish companies with growth potential. Like its predecessors, it will disclose sustainability information under Article 8 of the EU's Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation.
Who's backing it? State-owned investor Tesi, which has backed every previous MB Funds equity fund, committed again. Its fund-of-funds KRR V also invested — the first KRR commitment to an MB Funds vehicle.
Why now? Tesi frames the raise as plugging a financing gap for Finnish companies. The fund "supports Tesi's objective of channelling capital to growth-oriented Finnish SMEs whose investments and internationalisation are held back by a lack of financing and slow market growth," said Arttu Suominen, investment manager in Tesi's fund investments team.
The signal: With roughly €0.5 billion in assets and about 50 companies backed across the Nordics, MB Funds remains one of Finland's most established mid-market players. A €222 million close — anchored by repeat institutional capital — signals steady appetite for buyouts of profitable Nordic SMEs.
