What's the deal? SalzburgMilchDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and Pinzgau Milch have completed their merger, creating Austria's third-largest dairy processor. The combined business, registered in the commercial register, now operates under the SalzburgMilchDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → name.
By the numbers: The merged company reported roughly €526 million in revenue for 2025 and expects to process about 459 million kilograms of milk in 2026. It draws from some 3,200 farming families and employs around 750 people.
Who owns it? The Salzburger Alpenmilch cooperative holds 90% of the company, keeping it largely in the hands of regional farming families. The remaining 10% belongs to HMP Immobilien Holding, linked to Hans Michel Piëch, a Porsche AG supervisory board member. Andreas Gasteiger and Sebastian Mösl continue as managing directors.
Why now? Austria's competition authority cleared the deal after an in-depth review, finding no likely dominance or material obstacle to competition. The merger aims to pool collection, logistics, purchasing, and production across both businesses.
What changes? Little for staff or sites. All four locations — Salzburg-Itzling, Lamprechtshausen, Maishofen, and Kössen — stay open, and the company says the 750 jobs are secure.
What could go wrong? The promised efficiencies still depend on successful integration of the two operations, which remains the hard part of any merger.
What Gasteiger said: "The SalzburgMilch can now respond even more agilely and directly to current industry needs" (translated from German), the managing director said, adding that the move gives the company "a strong and self-confident position in the market."
The signal: The deal reflects a broader consolidation trend among Austria's farmer-owned dairies. Berglandmilch and the Obersteirische Molkerei have also agreed to combine their dairy operations, pending competition approval — pointing to a sector seeking scale to stay competitive.
