IBM Ventures backs enterprise agent startup Leena AI

What's the deal? Leena AI, a New York enterprise agentic AI company, has secured a strategic investment from IBM VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, the venture arm of IBM. Terms were not disclosed. The funding joins existing backers Greycroft and Bessemer Venture Partners.

What's the endgame? Leena AI's AI Colleague platform deploys autonomous agents that resolve employee requests and run multi-step workflows across HR, IT, and Finance. The agents act inside systems large enterprises already use, including SAP, Workday, Salesforce, Oracle, and ServiceNow. The company says it automates processes for more than 500 enterprises globally.

Why now? Demand is shifting from AI that answers questions to AI that completes work end to end. "Enterprises are done experimenting with AI that talks. They want AI that does: agents that own a process, do the job and close the loop," said Adit Jain, co-founder and chief executive officer of Leena AI.

Why IBM? For IBM Ventures, the appeal is complementary technology. "Leena AI's approach complements IBM's work in AI orchestration and governance," said Emily Fontaine, global head of IBM Ventures. IBM backs early- and growth-stage companies across AI, security, and quantum computing whose capabilities serve its enterprise clients.

The signal: The tie-up fits a broader push to move enterprise AI from assistants to autonomous agents. Leena AI launched its AI Colleague Studio in October 2025, and IBM expanded agent management in watsonx Orchestrate the following year. With Workday's recent move to acquire agent-identity startup ConductorOne, large vendors are racing to build and govern agents across company systems — and IBM is now placing a bet on the back office.
