Mithrl raises $20M Series A for biopharma AI infrastructure

What's the deal? MithrlDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, an AI infrastructure company for biopharma, has raised a $20 million Series A led by Obvious Ventures, chief executive officer Vivek Adarsh told Axios. Headline, AGI HouseDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, and several pharma executives also participated.

Where the money goes: The round funds Mithrl's second-generation platform, Mithrl-1, which layers an agentic system for model routing and context orchestration on top of its proprietary biomedical world model. It lets biopharma teams run validated scientific context alongside frontier AI inside their own environments.

What's the endgame? Mithrl positions its world model as a middle layer curated from peer-reviewed science, not extrapolated from public data. Every hypothesis it generates comes with a confidence score and a record of what the system read.

By the numbers: The company says its world model delivers 16 times more primary evidence per answer than frontier models alone and scored 0.96 for scientific correctness in expert-rated benchmarks, versus 0.60 without its knowledge system. In one benchmark, the platform used 45% fewer tokens than standard workflows on the same base models.

Traction: Mithrl is deployed across top-10 pharma, clinical-stage biotechs, and genomics platform partners. It says discoveries powered by its platform have contributed to more than half a dozen customer-owned patent filings.

Why now? Pharma AI spending is broadening beyond single tools to systems built to work across R&D functions. "The industry is cracking under the weight of hypotheses it can't triage or validate," Adarsh said, framing Mithrl as a way to decide which findings hold up in experiments and in patients.

The signal: At $20 million, the round sits in the top 10% of all US Series A rounds in big data, a sign of investor appetite for the infrastructure layer beneath AI-for-biology apps. "The durable advantage lives in the middle," said Rohan Ganesh, partner at Obvious Ventures. "There is no one-size-fits-all, and that's exactly where Mithrl is building."
