Gus Foods raises €500K to scale office smart fridges across Belgium

What's the deal? Belgian scaleup Gus FoodsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has raised €500,000 in a Series A from its existing investors, supplemented by bank financing, to accelerate a nationwide rollout of its smart fridges. The company stocks refrigerators inside offices with fresh meals from Belgian producers, pitching them as an alternative to company cafeterias.

How it works: The fridges sit inside a building and stay open all day, covering snacks, breakfast, drinks, baked goods, salads, and hot meals. Employees pay through a mobile app, including with meal vouchers, while machine learning helps optimise the selection and cut food waste.

The numbers: Gus Foods serves nearly 5,000 unique customers a month and generated more than €1.5 million in revenue in 2025. Installing a fridge is cost-effective at locations with roughly 50 or more employees, and it also works in multi-tenant buildings where occupants collectively supply the volume.

Why now? The traditional company cafeteria has not fully recovered since the COVID-19 crisis, and fluctuating office occupancy makes large kitchens harder to keep profitable. Employers, meanwhile, are hunting for ways to make coming into the office more appealing.

What's the endgame? Founder Andreas De Ridder says the model is now proven and ready to replicate. "We now have a good understanding of what a location costs and what it generates. Now it's a matter of replicating that across the entire country," he said.

What else: Lore D'Hooghe, formerly chief operating officer at FoodbagDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → for six years, has joined the board. Gus Foods has also begun working with SodexoDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, the largest provider of catering and facility services in Belgium.

The signal: De Ridder frames office food less as a benefit than a business lever. "Good food at the office isn't a perk — it's one of the few concrete levers an employer has over how people feel during their day," he said — a bet that hybrid work has created room for lighter, tech-driven alternatives to the office canteen.
