The State of Women-Led Agrifood in Europe 2025

There are over 740 VC-backed women-founded agrifood startups in the EU. These companies are worth a combined $10B, have grown 5x since 2019. Dive into the ecosystem, in collaboration with EIT Food.

Key findings

• Women-founded companies are 22% of Europe's VC-backed pre-seed agrifood companies but 7.7% of those reaching a $1B+ valuation or exit.
• The share of new VC-backed agrifood companies with a woman founder rose from 17% in 2015-2019 to 34% in 2020-2025, or 299 to 427 companies.
• Women-founded agrifood companies in Europe were worth €10.1B in 2025, and excluding HelloFresh their value grew 4.7x since 2019, more than twice the sector's growth.
• Women-founded agrifood companies in Europe raised €162M of VC in 2025, down from a €968M peak in 2021 that a few late-stage rounds drove.
• Germany (€1.4B) and France (€812.6M) took most of the VC raised by women-founded agrifood companies since 2019, with Italy third at €183.8M.
