Try Dealroom →, and Y Combinator also participated, bringing total funding to $55.8 million.
What's the endgame? Conveo's AI interviewer conducts video interviews with consumers and adjusts follow-up questions to individual answers rather than following a fixed script. The company says more than half of its useful insights come from those AI-generated follow-ups.
Its newest product, StoryLines, runs ongoing research into a brand's core questions, removing the need to commission separate studies. Canva has used it to test advertising concepts across countries as it expands campaigns.
Why now? Founder Dieter De Mesmaeker returned to building in February 2024 with Hendrik Van Hove, formerly of McKinseyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, and joined Y Combinator's summer 2024 batch. He previously spent nearly a decade building edtech platform DataCamp before resigning as chief technology officer in 2022.
The pair set out to fix a problem De Mesmaeker knew well: traditional research is often so slow that insights arrive only after key decisions are made.
By the numbers: The $50 million round ranks in the 99th percentile of Series A deals in Conveo's industry and country, across a sample of 877 all-time rounds. The startup's infrastructure already runs across more than 50 Fortune 500 companies.
"We have built the infrastructure to gather, structure and synthesise consumer data at unprecedented scale, using best-in-class research methodologies, vetted participants and purpose-built data architecture," said De Mesmaeker.
What could go wrong? Conveo remains smaller than several better-funded rivals. Listen LabsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, backed by Sequoia and Ribbit Capital, has raised $100 million and could soon reach nearly $1.5 billion in value, while Remesh has raised more than $50 million from General Catalyst.
Conveo counters with GDPR-compliant hosting by default for European customers and both a continuous data layer and one-off projects, aiming at firms that need both.
The signal: AI research startups are drawing large checks. Simile raised $200 million at a $2 billion valuation five months after its Series A, and Denmark's GetWhy added $8.4 million in debt to its $34.5 million Series A. With global research spending estimated by ESOMAR at $153 billion, Conveo is betting that continuous, AI-driven insight beats one-off studies.
