Breedr raises $27M to put every cow on a digital record

The startup assigns every cow a digital record from birth to supermarket shelf, and the round brings its total funding to $46.6 million.
Why now? The US cattle herd began 2026 at its lowest point since 1951, with the US Department of Agriculture forecasting the smallest calf crop on record even as beef demand climbs. "The industry has to get more value from every animal, and you cannot do that on paper," said founder and chief executive officer Ian Wheal.
What's the endgame? Breedr replaces paper-based livestock records with a digital file tracking each animal's weight, health, and ancestry, updated at every farm visit. Producers trade on its marketplace using verified records, typically paying lower fees than at conventional auctions.
Breedr now tracks more than two million cattle and expects almost $500 million in livestock to trade on its marketplace this year. It says its system, which uses an AI model to time sales, gets cattle to market weight up to five months earlier, adds more than $500 in value per animal, and cuts methane emissions by roughly 20% to 30%.
The expansion: Founded in the UK in 2018 and headquartered in Texas since 2022, Breedr operates in the US, UK, and Australia and is moving into New Zealand. Arnaud Minvielle of Partech and Remus Brett of Latitude will join its board.
The signal: The round lands amid momentum in livestock tech: New Zealand's Halter raised $220 million in March 2026 at a $2 billion valuation, and AgriWebb was acquired by URUSDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → earlier this year. Breedr's transaction-fee model — earning per sale rather than through software subscriptions — sets it apart from rivals selling tools to feedlots.
