Kapso raises $1.4M seed to build WhatsApp infrastructure for LatAm developers

What's the deal? Chilean startup Kapso has raised $1.4 million in a seed round to expand a platform that lets any developer plug the official WhatsApp Business API into their products. The round drew Norte Ventures, Latitud, Newtopia, Platanus, Hypersphere, Semilla Ventures, and Chile Ventures.

Who else backed it? Angels included Auth0 cofounders Matías Woloski and Damián Schenkelman, Cornershop cofounder Juan Pablo Cuevas, and Pledge founder David de Picciotto. Several first met Kapso as users, and founder Andrés Matte says the round closed without a traditional pitch deck.

What's the endgame? Kapso wants to be the technology layer other teams build on, rather than shipping end-user apps itself. Its offering — an API, a CLI, and a no-code visual builder — competes with global players like Twilio on simplicity and cost for the region.

Why now? Founded by Matte, a former Platanus Ventures partner who built the product largely solo, Kapso grew to more than 28,000 developers without outside money. It says it now processes more messages in a single hour than in all of August 2025.

The signal: At $1.4 million, the round ranks in the 91st percentile of all-time Chilean seed rounds, based on 899 deals. With over 3 billion WhatsApp users worldwide and rising demand for AI agents inside the app, Kapso is betting Latin America needs its own infrastructure layer for the region's dominant messaging channel.
