How the selection worked. SIPP 1 drew roughly 80 applications from startups and small and medium-sized enterprises. After several screening stages, 12 applicants were shortlisted for interviews, five advanced to due diligence, and KrubKrong and one other startup secured equity packages.

Why now? The investment agreement was signed in Phnom Penh on 20 August 2026, alongside the launch of the programme's second cohort. The initiative is designed to address limited access to investment capital for Cambodian startups and SMEs during expansion.

The signal. The programme aligns with Cambodia's National Strategy on Startup Development 2026–2030. Through equity investment, EDF is positioning itself as a public catalytic investor that can help fill financing gaps and draw private capital into the country's startup ecosystem.
