Duolingo acquires Animade to deepen its creative capabilities

Animade is known for product storytelling, expressive motion systems, interactive experiences and character animation. Financial terms were not disclosed. Its team will join Duolingo's Design Studio.
What Animade brings. The studio works across 2D and 3D animation, illustration, branding, sound design, and interactive and AR projects. Animade describes its approach as a love for character, distilled design and pixel-perfect motion; its work is built around the idea that thoughtful moments and personality can make technology feel more human.
Why now? Duolingo says motion design has become central to helping learners understand, enjoy and return to its products. Animade's team will add capacity for product innovation, growth experiments and new creative initiatives, while expanding Duolingo's creative presence in the UK. The context. The announcement followed Duolingo's second-quarter 2026 results, when the company reported €258.95 million ($298.45 million) in revenue and 58.7 million users; daily active users were up 23% year on year, according to EU-Startups.

The acquisition gives Duolingo more creative capability in-house at a time when the company says exceptional human creativity remains a differentiator as AI accelerates how software is built. It also continues Duolingo's investment in the design and brand systems that make its learning products distinctive.
