Archer acquires Wisk Aero, SkyGrid and Insitu from Boeing

Boeing will take a stake in Archer and become a strategic partner under a collaboration and technology-sharing arrangement.
What each side brings: Wisk has designed, built and flown six generations of eVTOL aircraft across more than 1,700 flight tests. SkyGrid builds aircraft-agnostic air-traffic-management software, while Insitu manufactures uncrewed aircraft systems for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. Together, the three businesses hold nearly two million combined flight hours.
Why now? Archer says the deal moves it towards a diversified, end-to-end physical AI platform spanning commercial aerospace, defence and air-traffic management. The acquired autonomy technology will feed Archer's ZEE artificial-intelligence model.
By the numbers: The addition brings a profitable defence business generating over $200 million in annual revenue, with operations across 35 countries.
What's the endgame? Archer aims to combine its air-taxi, UAS and AI work with Boeing's decades of autonomy research to lead the next generation of aviation. "This is a watershed moment for Archer and the future of physical AI in aerospace and defence," said founder and chief executive officer Adam Goldstein.
What changes for Boeing? Boeing will retain access to Wisk's core autonomous-flight technology for its current and next-generation commercial and defence aircraft. The move lets it refocus investment on core businesses while keeping upside through its Archer stake.

The signal: The deal marks consolidation in advanced aviation, folding autonomy, eVTOL and unmanned systems into a single platform. It also reflects Boeing's choice to monetise long-running research bets while betting on a partner to carry them to market.
