UK chipmaker Fractile raises £577.4m Series C to challenge Nvidia
What's the deal? UK semiconductor startup Fractile has raised about £577.4m in Series C funding, based on Companies House share allotments filed for September–October 2026. The round has not been formally announced by the company; Sifted earlier put the figure at £540m from the same filings.
What does it build? Fractile designs AI-inference chips that rely on static random access memory (SRAM), a different memory technology to the GPUs made by market leader Nvidia. It has signed a deal with Anthropic.
Why now? The raise follows Fractile's $220m Series B just five months earlier, signalling investor appetite to fund a rapid build-out. Earlier this year the company announced plans to invest £100m in its UK operations over three years, expanding its London and Bristol sites and adding a hardware engineering centre in Bristol.
The bigger picture: Fractile's round is unusually large for a European semiconductor company. Inference-chip startups raised $4.18bn across 22 deals through August 2026, while Dutch rival Euclyd secured more than €200m in September to develop its own chips.
What could go wrong? Capital is concentrating in a few very large bets, and the sector's central test remains whether startups can turn chip designs into reliable products and win customers at scale.
The signal: Fractile's raise matters less as proof of commercial success than as a striking vote of confidence in the race to challenge Nvidia in AI compute.
