Prosper Medical raises $16M seed to scale AI concierge care

What's the deal? Prosper Medical, an AI-driven concierge health platform, has raised $16 million in seed funding to expand access to membership-based primary care across the US. Who's behind it? Founders Ryan McQuaid and James Wantuck previously built PlushCareDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, one of the first direct-to-consumer telehealth platforms, which Accolade acquired in 2021 in a deal valued at $450 million.

Why now? The founders say PlushCare's scale surfaced deeper gaps than access alone. "We grew PlushCare to more than a million patient visits a year, and through those millions of interactions, we really learned that there were some problems with just providing access to a great doctor," Wantuck said.

What's the product? Prosper's membership platform, priced at a flat $69 a month, gives patients a dedicated primary care provider plus a Care Concierge team. It is in-network with many major insurance plans and uses AI to aggregate data and coordinate care across interactions.

What's the endgame? McQuaid, the chief executive officer, said the funding will expand the physician network, build out the AI platform, and accelerate growth. Wantuck, the chief medical officer, framed the AI as a support tool: "We're not looking to use AI to make healthcare cheap and quick, [or] eliminate physicians and other healthcare workers from the workflow."

The signal: The round lands as investors back AI tools that aim to fix healthcare workflows rather than cut costs by replacing clinicians — a bet that a better patient experience, not a cheaper one, is where the market is heading.
