StrongestLayer adds $4.1M to seed round for AI email security

What's the endgame? Founded in 2024, the San Francisco-based startup offers an AI-native email security platform built to catch threats that evade traditional filters. It targets advanced phishing, business email compromise (BEC), and adversary-in-the-middle attacks.
Why now? The company, which emerged from stealth in 2025, will use the money to accelerate its go-to-market strategy and expand its platform.
What's the tech? Rather than pattern-matching, StrongestLayer's system uses reasoning and intent analysis to judge whether a message is legitimate or harmful. It builds arguments for both legitimacy and maliciousness, then weighs the evidence to reach a verdict.
The approach responds to a shift in attacker behavior. Analyzing thousands of detections between December 2025 and February 2026, the company found that one-third of attacks cannot be caught by pattern-matching and behavioral techniques.
