Cape Town's Zazu lands Seed backing from Launch Africa to build SME finance OS

Co-founded in 2024 by Germain Bahri and Rinse Jacobs, the startup is building what it calls a "Finance OS" for African SMEs — offering business accounts, invoicing, spend management, and bookkeeping tools.
What's the endgame? Zazu wants to make banking feel "less like an obstacle and more like a catalyst for business growth." The company says it will keep refining its core product while eyeing opportunities beyond capital in the months ahead.
Why now? The raise caps what Bahri described as "a recent series of good news." He credited the deal to "our continued focus to improve and refine our product, combined with rapid execution," which he said had put Zazu "on the radar of the right VCs."
Who's backing it? Launch Africa Ventures, founded in 2020 by Zachariah George and Janade Du Plessis, is a pan-African fund specialising in Seed and pre-Series A deals. Zazu joins the firm's Seed Fund II portfolio, alongside fintechs such as Agridex, CreditCircuit, Liquify, and VaulFi. The deal follows a busy June for Launch Africa, which backed Agridex and distributed $2.5 million to limited partners of its 2020-vintage Seed Fund I after 11 exits pushed the fund into DPI-positive territory. The firm completed 15 new investments in 2026.
The signal: Zazu's quick move onto an established investor's cap table underscores continued appetite for African SME banking, a segment where Launch Africa has already backed some of the continent's best-known fintech pioneers.
