Gestala raises 420M yuan Angel+ for ultrasound brain-computer interfaces

What's the deal? China's Gestala (Gestalt Technology) has closed a 420 million yuan (about $61.9 million) SEED+ round for its ultrasound-based brain-computer interface (BCI) technology. Why now? The round marks a sharp step-up from Gestala's previous 150 million yuan angel financing, keeping up a rapid funding pace in 2026. It arrives as Chinese capital pours into frontier neurotech, with embodied-AI peers such as Galbot also securing record-sized early rounds.

What's the endgame? Gestala's ultrasound BCIs emphasise non-invasive brain signal reading and writing plus neural circuit regulation. It targets neurological conditions including chronic pain, depression, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, stroke rehabilitation, and epilepsy. The funds will expand its R&D team, build experimental platforms, advance clinical collaborations, and prepare for industrialisation.

Where's it expanding? On the same day, Gestala opened a Shanghai headquarters in Minhang District's "Brain Intelligence World" hub, creating a dual base with Chengdu. The Shanghai site sits closer to brain science research, clinical resources, and the Yangtze River Delta's medical device supply chain, connecting the company to institutions such as Fudan University.

What could go wrong? To reach medical use, BCI products must clear device development, algorithm modelling, clinical validation, ethical compliance, data security, and integration into doctors' workflows. The company is targeting China's NMPA Class III device registration — a regulated, clinic-oriented path, not a consumer play.

The signal: The investor mix — hard-tech, healthcare, precision manufacturing, and Shanghai-linked funds — points to Gestala's push from lab prototype toward industrialisation. A near–Series A sum at the angel stage confirms BCI is joining embodied AI and robotics as a priority in China's strategic tech stack.
