Why now? Founded in 2024, Cambrian offers an API serving real-time and historical blockchain data on yield, risk, lending rates, and market sentiment.

It now plans to expand into a "verifiable" oracle network for institutions and AI agents that need reliable data to allocate capital onchain.

"We are the only data provider designed from the outset to support both centralized and verifiable network modes," founder and chief executive officer Sam GreenDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → claimed.

The platform already indexes $4.5 billion in lending value across the four largest lending protocols and monitors more than 320,000 decentralised exchange pools across Base and Solana.

What could go wrong? Cambrian remains in private beta, with TrueNorth its only production user so far.

Unlike traditional oracle networks that mainly provide price feeds, Cambrian aggregates lending data, exchange liquidity, social sentiment, and developer activity into one platform — a broader, harder-to-verify scope.

Green said the alpha version of the oracle network is complete, built with researchers from a16z crypto. Integrations with blockchain and DeFi partners start in the coming months.

The signal: Having a traditional asset manager like Franklin Templeton co-lead alongside crypto-native fund Polychain Capital — both taking board observer seats — signals the kind of institutional-plus-native backing that early-stage onchain infrastructure plays now need to scale. The mix of an investment fund, a corporate trading firm in Flow Traders, and crypto specialists points to convergence between traditional finance and DeFi around the data layers that AI agents will rely on to move capital.
