Cloudflare acquires VoidZero, the company behind Vite, to power the agentic web

Vite, Vitest, Rolldown, Oxc, and Vite+ will remain open source, MIT-licensed, and vendor-agnostic. Evan You and the VoidZero team continue to lead development, with Cloudflare committing additional engineering resources. Cloudflare is also pledging $1 million to a Vite ecosystem fund to support maintainers and contributors, administered by the Vite core team.
Vite has become a foundational layer for the JavaScript ecosystem with roughly 129 million weekly downloads. It underpins major frameworks including Vue, SvelteKit, Nuxt, Astro, Solid, Qwik, Angular, React Router, and TanStack Start — even Next.js now has a Vite-based implementation. Cloudflare's own Vite plugin has reached nearly 14 million weekly downloads.
Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince framed the acquisition in the context of the agentic web, noting that AI-generated applications increasingly default to Vite as their build tool and Cloudflare as their hosting platform. This follows Cloudflare's earlier acquisition of Astro and comes just a day after Prince revealed that bot traffic has surpassed human traffic online for the first time, according to Cloudflare Radar data.
