Expedia Group acquires Dublin's CarTrawler to expand B2B travel platform

What's the deal? Expedia GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has agreed to acquire CarTrawler, the Dublin-headquartered B2B technology provider of car rental, ground transport, and insurtech solutions for the global travel industry. Financial terms were not disclosed. The deal is subject to regulatory approval and expected to close by year-end.

CarTrawler's Connect Platform links more than 550 car rental suppliers and 500 mobility providers with roughly 300 travel brands worldwide.

Why now? Expedia Group has been building out what it calls "the most complete B2B travel platform." Adding CarTrawler extends that ambition into car rentals, ground transport, and insurtech — areas where Expedia lacked deep, specialised infrastructure.

Alfonso Paredes, president of B2B and chief commercial officer at Expedia Group, said the acquisition "is another huge, exciting step towards our ambition of building the most complete B2B travel platform." He added that CarTrawler's "differentiated expertise in these areas complements our strengths in B2B scale and technology."

What could go wrong? Integration is always the hard part. CarTrawler has built a niche, partner-first business connecting hundreds of suppliers with hundreds of travel brands. Folding that into Expedia's broader operation without disrupting existing relationships will be a delicate task.

Regulatory approval is still pending, and consolidation in travel tech tends to draw scrutiny from competition authorities.

The signal: Expedia Group's acquisition of CarTrawler underscores how large travel marketplaces are consolidating specialised B2B infrastructure rather than building it in-house. Both companies are classified as late growth stage on Dealroom, suggesting this is a meeting of mature platforms rather than a typical startup exit — and a sign that the race to assemble end-to-end B2B travel stacks is intensifying among corporate acquirers.
