The Ithaca, New York-based company will use the capital to scale its core lactation offering and expand into virtual OB services — covering prenatal and postpartum care for low-risk patients. The goal: become a first-of-its-kind virtual perinatal care provider that supports families from pregnancy through the first two years postpartum.

Why now? SimpliFed says it is on track to serve 5% of all US births in 2026. It is already in network with most major commercial health plans nationally and Medicaid plans across several states, giving it the distribution to justify broadening its clinical scope.

"We have created a longitudinal care model that now not only offers breastfeeding and baby feeding support, but has evolved to serve families with virtual OB offerings," said Andrea Ippolito, founder and chief executive officer. "This is a testament to the needs within maternal health where we serve as an extension of the current standard of care to fill in the gaps."

What could go wrong? Expanding from a focused lactation platform to full virtual OB care is a significant clinical and operational leap. Managing routine prenatal and postpartum check-ins remotely requires tight coordination with patients' primary OBGYNs — and any breakdowns in that handoff could create liability and trust issues with health system partners.

The maternal telehealth space is also getting more crowded, with well-funded competitors targeting similar gaps in perinatal care.

The signal: Classified as a "breakout" company on Dealroom, SimpliFed's trajectory mirrors a proven digital-health playbook: lock in payer contracts around a narrow, hard-to-argue-against use case — here, lactation support covered by insurance — then ride that distribution into broader clinical services. The oversubscribed round and the mix of impact-oriented investors like AHA Social Impact Fund alongside traditional funds such as Morningside suggest growing conviction that maternal health, long considered a niche vertical, can sustain venture-scale returns as US insurers face mounting pressure to improve perinatal outcomes.
