Hostinger: A unicorn by growth, not just valuation

Hostinger is often described in European tech circles as a unicorn, not because it has a widely reported late-stage valuation above $1 billion in a traditional VC round, but because its scale, sustained growth, and market impact put it in the same league as many formally valued unicorns.

Founded in Lithuania in 2004 as Hosting Media , Hostinger has grown from a bootstrapped startup into a global web hosting and online infrastructure provider. For nearly two decades, it relied mainly on organic revenue and reinvestment rather than repeated venture capital rounds, with a minority private equity stake only emerging in 2021. This self-funded path helped shape a culture of efficiency and customer focus rather than fundraising milestones.

Hostinger’s financial trajectory has been dramatic. In 2025 the company reported approximately €275 million in revenue—up roughly 51 % year-on-year —marking its fourth consecutive year of greater than 50% revenue growth. This performance extends a multi-year surge that has seen the business scale from tens of millions in revenue to well over a quarter of a billion euros while expanding its global customer base.

These results have helped cement Hostinger’s reputation as one of Europe’s most consistently high-performing tech companies, including multiple appearances on the Financial Times ’ FT 1000 ranking of fastest-growing firms and a 2nd place finish among Europe’s Long-Term Growth Champions.

Today, Hostinger blends affordable hosting, cloud services, and AI-enhanced tools that help individuals and businesses build and grow online, making products simpler and more accessible. Its revenue growth, global scale, recurring subscription model, and sustained operational momentum align with the core metrics investors and founders often associate with unicorns — even in the absence of a single headline valuation round.

In that sense, Hostinger’s unicorn status reflects achievement and sustained commercial success, not just a price tag on paper.
