RobCo raises $100M to scale autonomous industrial robots and expand to the US

What’s the deal? German industrial robotics startup RobCo has raised $100 million in a growth round to scale its autonomous robotics platform and expand internationally. The Munich-based company, which builds modular robots for factories and warehouses, is backed by industrial heavyweights including the founding families behind Fiat and Toyota, alongside existing investors.

The funding will be used to accelerate product development, grow the team and support expansion into the US market. RobCo’s robots are designed to be flexible, easy to deploy and capable of working safely alongside humans in industrial settings.

Why now? Manufacturers are under pressure to automate as labour shortages, rising costs and supply chain disruptions persist across Europe and North America. At the same time, advances in AI and robotics software have made autonomous systems more reliable and commercially viable.

RobCo is also hitting a natural inflection point, moving from pilot deployments to broader rollouts with large industrial customers. The new capital gives it the runway to compete beyond Germany and target the US, one of the world’s largest automation markets.

What could go wrong? Scaling hardware-heavy businesses is expensive and operationally complex, especially when entering a new market like the US. RobCo will need to manage manufacturing, deployment and customer support while maintaining margins.

Competition is another risk, with established industrial automation players and well-funded robotics startups racing to win the same customers. Slower-than-expected adoption or integration challenges on factory floors could also delay returns on the investment.

The signal: The round underscores growing investor confidence in industrial automation as a long-term growth theme, not just a cyclical bet. Backing from automotive dynasties highlights how traditional industrial capital is increasingly flowing into software-driven robotics startups.

It also points to Europe’s ambition to remain relevant in advanced manufacturing, while looking to the US for scale. As factories modernise, flexible, AI-enabled robots like RobCo’s are becoming central to how industrial work gets done.
