Historical Background
The European Investment Fund (EIF) was established in 1994 to provide finance to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It is a part of the European Investment Bank (EIB) Group, functioning as a specialist entity for SME risk financing within the broader group.
Source of Capital
The EIF's capital is provided by its shareholders. Shareholders include the European Investment Bank (EIB), which is the majority shareholder, the European Union, represented by the European Commission, and various public and private financial institutions.
Allocation Strategy
The EIF focuses on providing risk finance, designing and developing venture capital, growth capital, guarantees, and microfinance instruments.
