The firm's business model focuses on inverting the traditional cloud model by building for AI-native companies, frontier labs, and enterprises first, rather than leaving them with the capacity remaining after hyperscalers are served. It addresses the significant upfront capital bottleneck for AI companies by arranging project financing, allowing customers to access dedicated AI infrastructure with greater financing certainty and at a lower cost of capital.

Upon emerging from stealth in August 2026, Volta announced a Seed and Series A funding round that valued the company at $2.4 billion, with backing from prominent investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Altimeter Capital, Azora, NVIDIA, and the family office of Michael Dell. Concurrently, it revealed a landmark $10 billion, six-year contract to supply cloud capacity to a major AI lab, reported to be Anthropic. This project involves a 133 MW deployment in Norway in partnership with data-center operator Bitdeer, utilizing NVIDIA's future Vera Rubin systems. To support its long-term growth, Volta also established a $5 billion AI Infrastructure Program with asset manager Azora to provide non-dilutive capital for developing future AI factories. The company's development pipeline exceeds 1 GW of power capacity across North America and Europe.
