Proximus, Belgium's leading telecommunications company, traces its origins back to 1930 when it was established as the state-owned RTT (Régie des Télégraphes et des Téléphones). This marked the beginning of a journey that would see the company evolve significantly over the decades.

In 1994, a pivotal transformation occurred when Proximus was founded as a joint venture between Belgacom, holding a 75% stake, and AirTouch, with a 25% stake. This partnership marked Proximus's entry into the mobile telecommunications market, setting the stage for its future growth. AirTouch later merged with Vodafone, and in 2006, Belgacom acquired the remaining shares, bringing Proximus fully under its control.

Throughout its history, Proximus has been at the forefront of technological advancements in the telecom sector. The company rebranded from Belgacom to Proximus in 2015, unifying its various brands under a single identity. This rebranding was more than just a name change; it represented Proximus's commitment to innovation and customer-centric services.

Proximus has also been active in expanding its reach through strategic acquisitions. Notably, in 2021, it acquired BICS SA for $245 million, enhancing its capabilities in international communications.
