Coala Life, founded in 2015, is a Swedish medical technology company that has carved a niche in the digital health sector, focusing on remote cardiac and pulmonary diagnostics. The company was co-founded by Philip Siberg, a serial entrepreneur in the medical device field, and Titti Lundgren. Siberg, with a Master of Science from the Royal Institute of Technology, has a background in scaling multiple med-tech ventures, which informed Coala Life's direction. The company's origins trace back to research started in 2004, addressing the complexities of analyzing heart sounds.

The core of Coala Life's business is its proprietary Coala Heart Monitor system, a platform that enables long-term, remote monitoring for patients away from a clinical setting. This system features a patch-free, smartphone-powered device that records both electrocardiogram (ECG) data and heart and lung sounds. The device transmits this information via Bluetooth to a mobile app, where algorithms provide real-time analysis for conditions like atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmias. This data is simultaneously accessible to both the patient and their healthcare provider through the cloud-based Coala Care portal. The business model primarily targets healthcare providers (B2B2C), who prescribe the device to their patients for at-home monitoring, particularly for chronic disease management. Revenue is generated on a pay-per-use basis, which removes the need for large upfront hardware investment by clinics and is designed to work with major insurance plans in the US market.

Significant milestones for the company include receiving CE approval in 2016 and initial FDA 510(k) clearance in 2019, which facilitated its entry into the U.S. market. The company further expanded its FDA clearance in 2022 to include remote lung sound monitoring. In November 2021, Coala Life became publicly listed on the Nasdaq First North Growth Market through a reverse acquisition. The company also pursued growth through acquisition, such as its 2022 agreement to acquire Vitrics Management Group to bolster its Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) services in the U.S. However, after facing challenges with sales growth and liquidity, Coala Life Group AB filed for bankruptcy on March 22, 2024, and was subsequently delisted.
