The leading supply chain company powering today’s digital transformation MoreLess
In 1985, James Donald Armstrong and Frederick M. Pakis founded JDA Software. Their mission was to build software that could help retailers manage their complex operations. After an initial contract with an automotive retailer, the entire eight-person team relocated to Arizona, which became its long-term headquarters. For its first decade, the company grew privately before going public on March 15, 1996. Over the next two decades, JDA became a major force in the supply chain industry, acquiring numerous companies like Manugistics, i2 Technologies, and RedPrairie to expand its capabilities. In 2012, the company was taken private again for $1.9 billion by New Mountain Capital. A pivotal moment came in 2018 when JDA acquired a German AI firm named Blue Yonder. This acquisition signaled a new direction, and in 2020, JDA rebranded itself entirely to Blue Yonder, embracing a future centered on AI and cloud-based supply chain management. This transformation caught the eye of a global giant. In 2021, Panasonic announced it would acquire Blue Yonder for $7.1 billion, having already purchased a minority stake the previous year. The acquisition, completed in September 2021, integrated Blue Yonder into Panasonic's portfolio, aiming to create an 'Autonomous Supply Chain' by combining Panasonic's hardware and sensor technology with Blue Yonder's AI-powered logistics platform.
