How Base44 Went From Side Project to $80M Acquisition in 6 Months

In January 2025, Israeli developer Maor Shlomo started building a tool called Base44Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →—just him, no team, no funding, just an idea: what if anyone could build a full app just by describing it in simple words?

That idea quickly became something big. Base44 let users create web and mobile apps using AI, with no need to write code. People typed what they wanted—“a task tracker for my team” or “an online store for local artists”—and Base44 handled the rest: frontend, backend, database, and deployment. It was fast, powerful, and easy to use.

In just six months, the platform grew to 250,000 users and made nearly $190,000 in profit in May alone. Maor shared his journey publicly on LinkedIn and X—how the product worked, how much money it was making, and what he was learning. That transparency helped him build a loyal following.

Then came Wix. Seeing the potential of Base44—and the shift toward AI-powered tools for creators—they bought the company for $80 million in cash, plus a $25 million retention package for the new team.

Base44 isn’t just a success story—it’s a sign of how fast things move in the AI world now. With a strong idea, smart execution, and a bit of internet magic, one person built a product that changed what’s possible—and sold it before the year was even half over.
