Architect of UAE’s Global Innovation Strategy

His Highness Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan is one of the most influential figures in the United Arab Emirates, overseeing a financial and technological empire valued at over $1.5 trillion. Often dubbed the “Tony Stark of the Middle East,” Sheikh Tahnoun is a central architect of the UAE’s national security strategy, innovation policy, and investment diplomacy.

Appointed National Security Advisor in 2016 and Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi in 2023, Sheikh Tahnoun plays a critical dual role at the intersection of statecraft and capital. He chairs the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), which manages approximately $1 trillion in assets, and leads several other major entities including ADQ ($300B), First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), International Holding Company (IHC), Royal Group, MGX, and G42, the UAE’s flagship artificial intelligence and cloud computing firm.

Under his leadership, these organizations have made bold international moves that strengthen UAE–US relations. MGX invested in the $500B Stargate Project and deployed $100B into US-based AI infrastructure. Through ADQ, he facilitated $1B into Sotheby’s and $1.2B into Orion Resource Partners. ADIA committed $10B to Qlik and acquired a $3B stake in Fisher Investments. Meanwhile, G42 invested in AI firm Verses and purchased cutting-edge supercomputers from Cerebras Systems.

Sheikh Tahnoun is also known for his strategic partnerships with global tech giants like Microsoft, Oracle, OpenAI, and BlackRock, positioning the UAE as a crucial partner in the AI race and the global digital economy. A chess master and a behind-the-scenes power broker, he continues to shape the UAE’s emergence as a sovereign innovation powerhouse with global reach.
