Worried about dropping his iPhone 2G into a canal while biking, he envisioned a watch that could display notifications without needing to take out his phone. That simple idea eventually grew into a product that captured global attention.
In 2012, Pebble launched on Kickstarter and shattered records, raising $10.3 million. It proved there was a real demand for smartwatches before the big players fully entered the space. Pebble’s lightweight design, e-paper display, and long battery life make it stand out. However, success in hardware is never just about a great product. Eventually, Pebble was acquired by Fitbit, marking the end of an era for the pioneering smartwatch brand. Rather than stepping away from the industry, Migicovsky took on a different challenge. His latest company, Beeper, aims to unify messaging services into one platform.
