Nyquis raises $6.3M to spot grid faults before they spark fires
What's the deal? NyquisDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a grid-monitoring startup founded this year, has raised $6.3 million in seed funding led by Gigascale CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. What's the endgame? The company attaches its "Nyquis Node" to substations to track line conditions in high resolution, spotting problems like branches hitting lines, deteriorating connections, or arcing. "We've built a high-resolution continuous monitoring system that finds these problems while the lights are still on," co-founder and chief executive officer Daniel Hunter said.
Utilities today rely on data that is often "scattered and siloed," Hunter said. Nyquis aims to give operators a clearer view of local distribution lines to prevent wildfires and outages.
Why now? The financing lands as extreme weather raises power supply risks, energy demand climbs, and a bipartisan push builds to expand US transmission.
Early traction: Nyquis has two customers to date, both in New Mexico — the Otero County Electric CooperativeDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and the Socorro Electric Cooperative. At Otero County, its first deployment, Nyquis detected dozens of potential faults from branches repeatedly touching lines during a windstorm — events the utility's existing equipment could not have caught.
The signal: The round sits in the top 5% of all seed deals in energy, reflecting rising investor appetite for grid visibility. Torch SystemsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → raised $11.5 million in October, and Iceland's Laki PowerDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → raised €6 million for high-voltage line monitoring. Nyquis' focus on local distribution lines makes the round notable, though it remains an early-stage bet rather than proof of scaled adoption.
