What's the endgame? The South San Francisco company runs autonomous drones that deliver medical and retail cargo, and it will use the capital to expand US manufacturing and hiring. The goal is a nationwide delivery network that moves orders through the air rather than crowded roads.

Why now? The raise is a sharp escalation from Zipline's $600 million-plus round in January 2026, which valued it at $7.6 billion. Zipline and Walmart are launching 300 additional sites under a multi-year agreement, and partner Uber is targeting one million deliveries a day by the end of 2029.

By the numbers: Zipline made more than one million deliveries in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex this year. In October, the median order arrived 19 minutes after checkout, against 30-plus minutes for traditional delivery.

How big is this? The $1.5 billion round ranks in the top 1% of US late-stage rounds for mobile-app companies over the past four years, among a sample of 57 comparable deals.

What could go wrong? Large-scale flights beyond the operator's line of sight still depend on a patchwork of Federal Aviation Administration approvals, with a national framework unfinished. The valuation reflects expectations of regulatory and operational scale, not yet a proven nationwide business.

The signal: Investors are betting heavily that drone delivery is nearing mainstream scale. AlphabetDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s WingDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → are expanding too, but Zipline's funding and merchant deals position it as the sector's frontrunner — if regulation keeps pace.
