Fundraise

Polar lands €75M facility, crossing €1B raised for European AI data centres

What's the deal? Polar DC Group, a developer of AI-ready data centres, has secured an initial €75 million development financing facility from new backer Palistar CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, taking its total funding commitments this year past €1 billion. Existing shareholders H.I.G. Capital and LIAN GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → also added investment.

Where's the money going? The debt facility — which can be upsized with additional lenders — funds early-stage development in Finland and Germany, including land acquisition, grid connections, and permitting work. It follows Polar's €800 million Nordic bond issuance in June, which supports its contracted Norwegian builds.

The expansion: Polar is extending its platform beyond Norway into Finland and Germany. The push rests on existing demand: its live 12MW DRA01 facility in Drangedal hosts CrusoeDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s AI cloud, and the partners have agreed to add a 40MW site, DRA02, at the Tørdal campus. Polar is also developing a 40MW facility, HER01, at Herøya.

Why now? AI compute demand is driving a wave of large, debt-financed data-centre build-outs across Europe. Norway's renewable hydroelectric power is a selling point; Crusoe runs its Tørdal capacity on it entirely.

What they said: "Securing over €1 billion in funding is a significant milestone for Polar and demonstrates the confidence investors have in our business," said chief executive officer Andy Hayes.

The signal: Polar's bond, reportedly four times oversubscribed, shows deep institutional appetite for AI-ready infrastructure. But the raise is not all fresh growth capital — part refinances existing Norwegian debt — underscoring how AI demand is now being converted into capital-intensive, debt-funded physical build-outs.
