Chengdu Yicheng raises Series C for glass-panel chip packaging

What's the deal? Chengdu Yicheng TechnologyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has closed a Series C round, the company said on November 5, 2026. Chengdu Hi-Tech Investment Group and its affiliated funds led as the main investor. Yicheng develops panel-level advanced packaging, a technique that integrates multiple chips on a single large substrate.

How it works: Yicheng swaps the round silicon wafer for a square glass panel measuring 510×515mm as the packaging carrier. That single panel offers roughly 3.7 times the usable area of a 12-inch wafer, raising output and cutting the cost of packaging high-end chips.

What's the endgame? The company has built a US$756.3M production base in Chengdu's high-tech west zone, offering packaging design, assembly, and testing in one place. It says it is the first domestic firm to reach mass production on a panel-level high-density platform, and is now ramping up volume.

Why now? Demand from AI and high-performance computing is pushing chipmakers toward advanced packaging as transistor scaling nears its physical limits. The World Semiconductor Trade Statistics organisation projects the global chip market will approach $1 trillion in 2026. Panel-level fan-out is gaining ground as a lower-cost alternative to wafer-based carriers for large AI chips.

The backers: Chengdu Hi-Tech has funded Yicheng repeatedly. It led a first round in the hundreds of millions of yuan in 2022, led a US$34.4M Series B in 2023, and added more in 2025 to become the single largest shareholder. A separate Series B that drew in Matrix Partners China and other investors exceeded US$137.5M.

What could go wrong? The round size was not disclosed, and the panel-level route is still proving its commercial case. Steady yields, customer orders, and scaled revenue — not funding alone — will determine whether the bet pays off. The sector also faces fast-rising competition and heavy capacity spending across China.

The signal: China's advanced packaging sector is in an AI-driven expansion. TrendForce counted nearly 10 domestic projects disclosed between May and July 2026, totalling close to US$5.5B, while JCETDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → announced a US$1.07B packaging base in Shanghai. Yicheng's raise shows local state capital staying committed to a chip supply chain Chengdu has long lacked at the high end.
