Try Dealroom → has launched CRSilva Ventures, a venture capital fund anchored by a $5 million commitment from the U.S. Endowment for Forestry and CommunitiesDealroom has a profile for this one. What's the endgame? CRSilva targets businesses that turn forests' biological, material, carbon, water, and data systems into scalable companies. Its scope spans forest management, wildfire resilience, automation, advanced materials, and wood-based products, including AI-integrated systems.

Why now? Pulpwood markets across the US continue to shrink, squeezing the economics of working forests. The fund aims to channel capital toward new sources of demand and improve the sector's viability.

Conservation Resources, founded in 2004, has invested more than $1.3 billion through private equity strategies focused on timberland and farmland. CRSilva is a new venture arm launched by one of the firm's co-founders.

"CRSilva is thrilled to have the Endowment as a partner," said Paul Young, founder and managing partner of CRSilva. "They bring a wealth of insight into the forest ecosystem and associated markets."

The Endowment, a not-for-profit public charity, said the commitment aligns with its mission to support working forests and forest-reliant communities. "Forest products are extremely diverse, with wide-ranging applications from construction materials to biochemicals and biofuels," said Trevor Cutsinger, who leads impact investing at the Endowment.

The signal: The $5 million anchor is notable for a new, specialist fund, but CRSilva's overall target and timeline remain undisclosed. The Endowment has also backed broader efforts to strengthen wood-fibre markets, suggesting the fund complements a wider push to fix the sector's economics — rather than a large wave of conventional VC. Its significance will hinge on whether the thesis produces scalable businesses.
