Israel's Schneider hospital launches pediatric VC fund with $20M first close
What's the deal? Schneider Children's Medical CenterDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, part of the Clalit Health Services group, is launching Schneider Children's VC (SCVC), a fund focused on pediatric healthcare innovation. It has raised about $20 million in a first close and is targeting roughly $50 million total.
Who's backing it? Anchor investors include Schneider, Clalit, the Dor Group, and Ronen Gadot, who serves as managing partner. The fund operates as a separate entity but draws on the hospital's clinical settings and Clalit's data.
Where's the money going? SCVC has already invested in three companies, with individual cheques ranging from $500,000 to $3 million. Operations began in February after an agreement with Clalit, and the fund has since evaluated about 170 companies.
Why now? Gadot says the fund answers a gap in pediatric medicine. "Only a small percentage of life sciences investments is directed toward pediatrics," he told Calcalist. "There is a significant opportunity here, both from a business perspective and in terms of healthcare outcomes."
What's the endgame? Schneider is pushing what it calls "Tech-Ped" — technologies built for children from the outset rather than adapted from adult solutions. Though children make up roughly 30% of Israel's population, many treatments were first developed for adults.
The fund also wants to partner with large data and AI companies to enable earlier disease detection, moving from preventive toward proactive medicine that identifies risks before symptoms appear.
The signal: According to Gadot, SCVC is the first Israeli fund dedicated to pediatric healthcare, with only two comparable funds globally — in Boston and Barcelona. Its tight integration with a hospital system is designed to cut investment risk while producing both medical value and financial returns.
