Signet Therapeutics lands lead backing from China Life for Series A extension
What's the deal? Signet Therapeutics, a Shenzhen-based drugmaker, has closed the first tranche of a Series A extension worth several hundred million yuan, led by China Life Equity Investment. The money will push its core oncology pipeline toward key clinical trials and fund new programmes targeting heart and kidney disease.
What the company does: Founded in late 2020, Signet builds organoid disease models that mirror patients' genomic traits, then pairs them with AI to screen and refine drug candidates — an "AI plus organoid" approach it says lifts development efficiency.
Its lead programme, SIGX1094, is a targeted therapy for diffuse gastric cancer and the first FAK/SRC dual-target inhibitor to reach clinical stage. A second candidate, SIGX2649, a pan-TEAD inhibitor, is also advancing. The company now runs five first-in-class pipelines.
Why now? The raise comes just months after Signet closed an US$11M Series A in January, signalling investors are willing to keep funding as its pipeline advances.
What could go wrong? This is only a first close, not a completed round; reporting did not disclose how much has landed or the full investor list. Drug development is long and uncertain, and the pipelines still face clinical risk.
Founder and chief executive officer Zhang Haisheng said the round is "a key boost as we accelerate toward global clinical validation" (translated from Chinese). Song Jun, managing director at China Life Equity Investment, praised the firm's "solid scientific foundation and efficient clinical execution."
The signal: China's innovative-drug funding and out-licensing have been warming up, with organoid and AI drug discovery drawing attention. But the field is early, and investment logic is shifting from technology concepts to clinical proof — making Signet's ability to hit milestones, not its narrative, the real test.
