Hanwha's Homeplus Express gets fresh $14.9M top-up to steady recovery

What's the deal? NS Shopping, a unit of HanwhaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s Harim Group, has poured US$16.8M into convenience-grocery chain Homeplus ExpressDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → through a growth-equity round announced in October 2026. NS Shopping, which already owns 100% of the company, bought all 2,000 newly issued common shares in cash.

Why now? The chain spent more than a year with half-empty shelves after parent HomeplusDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → filed for court receivership in March 2025, driving many shoppers away. The new capital follows a US$8.38M injection in August, lifting total post-acquisition funding to US$25.2M — a quarter of the US$101.1M Harim paid to buy the business.

What's the endgame? The money is going into restocking 284 stores, improving fresh-food ranges, and upgrading refrigeration for the group's core meat products. Harim wants to graft its livestock and food-sourcing strength onto the stores to stand out from rival supermarkets.

By the numbers: NS Shopping says daily average sales in September were about 2.6 times pre-acquisition levels, with customer counts up roughly 2.2 times. The company called the raise part of "capital expansion for phased normalisation of operations," though the comparison period reflects a time of severe supply disruption, so the rebound may overstate underlying strength.

What could go wrong? The supermarket sector is stuck in a growth slump as shoppers move online and competition from hypermarkets and convenience stores intensifies. Because NS Shopping owns the chain outright, its losses flow straight into consolidated results — and the company runs a direct-store model that raises funding pressure as it expands.

The signal: The top-up is less a growth bet than follow-on fuel to keep a receivership-battered business running, and a test of whether the rebound turns into real cash flow. Its fate contrasts with the main Homeplus chain, which cleared a reorganisation plan in September but still faces stalled sale talks and liquidity strain.
