Turpaz enters South Africa's fragrance market with $10.6M Sensory FX buy

What's the deal? TurpazDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → Industries has acquired 70% of Sensory FXDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a South African developer and manufacturer of flavors and fragrances, for about $10.6 million. The Israel-listed group paid cash upon signing through its local subsidiary Sunspray, with additional consideration tied to Sensory's performance through February 28, 2027.

What each side brings: Founded in 1999, Sensory is one of few independent local makers of fragrance extracts in South Africa, employing 75 people across a Johannesburg-area production site and R&D center. Turpaz develops and sells flavors, fragrances, and specialty ingredients in more than 100 countries.

What's the endgame? The deal marks Turpaz's first entry into South Africa's fragrance market and advances its plan for an integrated flavors-and-fragrances platform across Africa. Chief executive officer Karen Cohen Khazon called it "an important step in implementing Turpaz's growth strategy by expanding our presence in emerging markets."

By the numbers: Sensory's fiscal-2026 revenue rose about 18% to $10.9 million. That is modest against Turpaz's roughly $380 million annual run-rate, but it adds a local fragrance business near the group's existing South African operations.

Why now? The purchase extends a recent acquisition push. Turpaz bought South African flavor company Nicola-JDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → in 2025 and has since added businesses in the US and France.

What changes? Sensory's existing shareholders keep 30% and continue to lead management, with mutual put/call options on the remaining shares exercisable two or three years after closing. "This partnership validates that belief and marks an exciting new chapter," said Sensory chief executive officer François Strydom.

The signal: Turpaz is building scale in Africa deal by deal. Its payoff hinges on integration and whether expected cross-selling and regional growth materialize.
