SGS buys France's ProTechnologies to court independent vehicle-inspection centres

What's the deal? Swiss testing and inspection group SGS has acquired ProTechnologiesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a French specialist that helps independent vehicle-inspection centres set up and run their sites. Financial terms were not disclosed. ProTechnologies, founded in 1993, operates a 550-centre network under the "Mon Contrôle Technique" brand across France.

What's the endgame? The deal gives SGS a third French brand alongside its existing Auto Sécurité and Sécuritest networks, extending its reach among independent centres. It also expands the group's offering into heavy-vehicle testing.

What changes? "Mon Contrôle Technique" will continue as a standalone brand, and affiliated centres keep their independence. ProTechnologies' management also stays in place, with Thomas Bozon continuing to lead the company within SGS's transport unit.

Vincent Couty, president of SGS France, framed the logic simply. "In bringing together the leader in networks and the leader in independents, we strengthen our capacity to support all players in the sector," he said (translated from French).

Why now? The French vehicle-inspection market has split into two models — networks and independents — with complementary approaches, SGS said. By acquiring an established independent operator, the group aims to serve both sides rather than just one.

The signal: The purchase fits SGS's acquisition-led expansion: by its first-half 2026 results, the company said it had completed 14 bolt-on deals. Rather than a transformative move, this is a focused consolidation of an established local position — a bet that owning both networks and independents makes SGS harder to displace in French vehicle testing.
