Agri-biotech's Microendo wins Jalisco's Adolf Horn 2026 young entrepreneur award

What's the deal? Cristóbal Fonseca Sepúlveda, founder and chief executive officer of agri-biotech startup MicroendoDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, won the XIX Adolf B. Horn Young Entrepreneur of the Year award on October 27 in Guadalajara. The Consejo Coordinador de Jóvenes Empresarios de Jalisco (CCJEJ) handed the prize at a ceremony in Parque Agua Azul. Each of the five finalists received a 5 million peso prize pool.

What's Microendo building? The company develops technology based on microorganisms that boost crop growth and cut dependence on fertilisers. Fonseca started the project nine years ago to help his family's agave crops; Microendo now operates in three countries and is pursuing further international expansion.

Why now? This edition opened its call nationally for the first time, drawing more than 100 registrations from Jalisco and other states. More than 40 sponsors backed a prize pool offering financing, training, advice, and growth tools for participants.

What else happened? The other finalists were Valeria Aceves of Branché Beauty, Óscar Benavides of Gummy Life, Fernando Robledo of Logística Teromo, and Juan Pablo Ochoa of Biociar. María Teresa Tirado Díaz, executive president of Grupo Collins, served as the edition's patron and used her address to call for gender equity in business.

"I invite all entrepreneurs who are starting out to start a business out of passion, out of love, because if you start it for money, for money you will leave it," Fonseca said (translated from Spanish).

The signal: The award lands as microbial crop solutions gain traction in Mexico. FIRA recently announced a biodiversity-bond package with incentives for farmers using registered biofertilisers, planning to expand a pilot from 20,000 to 100,000 hectares. Demand for agricultural biologicals is rising, but field validation, product quality, and the lack of a harmonised regulatory category for many bioinputs remain hurdles — and the recognition itself is no proof of funding or adoption.
