Bambusa raises $169M in Nasdaq debut, riding biotech IPO rebound

What's the deal? Bambusa Therapeutics, a Boston-based clinical-stage biotech focused on dermatology and autoimmune diseases, raised $168.9 million in an upsized US initial public offering. It sold 10.556 million shares at $16 each — the midpoint of its marketed range — for a market value of $815 million.

What's the endgame? The company develops long-acting bispecific antibodies for immunology and inflammation. Its lead candidate is in Phase 1 for atopic dermatitis, and the proceeds will fund its early-stage pipeline.

Why now? Bambusa upsized the deal from the 9.375 million shares it originally marketed, a sign of solid demand. It joins a marked 2026 rebound in biotech listings: Reuters reported more than half a dozen biotech firms went public in New York since September, outpacing a subdued broader IPO market.

What could go wrong? Investor appetite is real but selective. Larger recent offerings — Lycia Therapeutics’ $318 million and Electra Therapeutics’ $350 million — dwarfed Bambusa’s raise. And with its lead therapy still in Phase 1, clinical success is far from guaranteed.

The signal: Bambusa’s debut shows public investors will again finance clinical-stage biotech after a prolonged drought. Whether that money turns into approved drugs is another question entirely.
